I love making gifts whenever possible. Besides receiving maybe a car or house, there’s nothing better than a homemade gift. Or more unique rather. I remember back in elementary school we would make gifts for our moms for Mother’s Day. Foremost, the one memory that stands out was making this little coupon booklet for my mom. These coupons were for things like “breakfast in bed” or “doing the dishes all week”. Now, as a mom myself, I can really see the value in a gift like this, The best Mother’s Day gift: Give her a break!

Mother’s Day: Give her a Break
Experience vs. “Stuff”: Which do you Prefer?
Having experiences as opposed to having “stuff” is what’s valued with the Millennial generation. And for myself, having gone through the experience of facing my own mortality, I wholeheartedly agree. Because at the end of the day we can’t take material object with us.
Rather, it’s the experience, or the memory of the experience, that lives on.
That’s one of the things I like about these Mother’s Day coupons. You can really use them to provide experiences (and also breaks) for Mom. Hopefully, they really contribute to her self care as that’s what she needs most.
However, I will note that during a recent news segment on Mother’s Day gifts for 2023 they discussed experience vs. things. According to a recent survey, “experiences as gifts are out” and “things are in”. They said that many moms who voted for the latter wanted their gift to “last longer”.
But it should be noted that the mommy news reporters discussing the segment disagreed. And one said to get her a Dyson so she could “sell it and take a trip to Hawaii”.
I think it’s always a good idea to ask the mom in your life what she prefers. And if anything, get her the “thing” plus a couple of these experience coupons to round it out!
